Cultural Heritage is a challenge from the Past for the World of Tomorrow with several open questions to the digital processing community. These questions from a large set from acquisition/restitution purposes to share and store the perceptual/sensorial experience, or integrating the metrological data to improve the knowledge about the artwork, from all the image analysis tools extracting measurements link to spatial topologies and complex distance/similarity for comparison, ordering in order to assess the creation among the artists, age and the geographical locations and evolution, of from the gap reduction between the low-level information and the semantic contents. All these questions are a priority for the European and international communities, like UNESCO, and new advances and results in in computer graphics and image analysis are expected.
The goal of this special session is to collect papers on novel contributions in this research area. Due to the importance for the next generation of the cultural heritage preservation, a great consideration will be given to works including a perceptual and physical metrological component in the digital data analysis (colour and spectral part, 3D and/or rugosity part, psycho-visual perception of details among the viewing conditions…).
Authors are invited to submit papers on original and unpublished research and practical applications related to cultural heritage, including history, archaeology, art, cultural awareness. In particular, we call for contributions, including but not limited to the following topics.
- Methods, algorithms, and solutions for digital imaging and computer graphics-driven cultural heritage preservation
- Analysis, Restoration, and 3D Reconstruction of archaeological sites
- 2D/3D Image retrieval of ancient ArtWork and/or archeological objects
- Imaging technology and protocols in laboratory conditions or in degraded conditions on cultural site.
- Enriched virtual and augmented reality including initial viewing conditions from the physical, perceptual and expert knowledge modelization
- Adapted low-level processing considerating the metrological content of acquired data.
- Segmentation and high-level processing in interaction with the semantic content and/or expert interaction
- Supervised and unsupervised annotation of image content, similarity measure in relationship to the metrological pixel/voxel information and semantic content.
This special session is a special parallel track of the main Workshop Taima 2015, which will be held on May 11-16 in Hammamet Tunisia.
